Water Changes Ad

Charity Water's  is clever and delivers the message clearly. We may take advantage of water, but I'm sure most of us forget about the unsanitary water that other people are forced to use, because there's no clean water available to them. Water helps our lives whether it's the necessary drinking, growing gardens to provide food or having fun painting, it's an essential part of our lives. This ad is another simple and well done design.

Watercolor face paintings by Mario Bolognesi

Here are some cool water color face paintings. The colors chosen really help enhance the emotion depicted on the face. I have even seen one of his paintings appear on an older t-shirt by Tank Theory. You can view more work from Mario Bolognesi on his website here: http://www.marion-b.com/

Color Illustration from Zakhar Krylov

The colors caught by eye and I love it. The concept of the drips forming a face is also a nice touch and you can't if the face is crying due to the drips or is it just closing its eye and having the paint form the face. I appreciate what Zakhar Krylov has done and if you want to see more of his work click here

Water Color Dripping Red Skull by Paul Alexander Thornton

Here's a video of Paul Alexander Thornton who creates a skull that drips. It's interesting to see that he does not draw the skull first, but maybe you think it's not. Watch the video.

Recent Works in 2010

Here were some stuff that I was working on or worked. Here are some sketching, logo work, and various art pieces, whether they are completed or not. The one above is a sketch that I'm brought into the computer and will be touching it up in Photoshop.

Hungry Andy's was a logo design for this new sandwich shop down in Baltimore, Maryland. This is only the black and white version.

This was a fun pinup sketch, that I would like to continue working on.

Woman paint like sketch.

Playing around with the wacom pen with this woman laying down sketch.

Negative Woman

This one wasn't, but I just wasn't satisfied with the outcome. It says "Champion" in Spanish.

Inspiration: Florian Nicolle w/ Step By Step Process

I was browsing on Behance and came across some of the illustrations by Florian Nicolle. I must say there is  pretty cool stuff. The blending of traditional media and digital media is always fun, but the majority of the legwork is traditional. Nicolle adds some texture in Photoshop of course to help make an amazing illustration shine even more. This is the artist statement on these illustrations:

I try to create an image that retains its freshness of the first paint stroke, the expressions of the line have to be very free and spontaneous. While keeping a rigorous drawing. So i use fast techniques like a bic, large brush, watercolor and chines ink then I add texture and details on Ps.

i use much texture of text, because it adds a presence of hand. I draw a picture as if I wrote a text, with the same tool, the same freedom, with erasures, lines, scribbles etc

You can view more work from this French Graphic Designer here: http://www.behance.net/neo_innov  or http://www.neo-innov.fr/

Here is the step by step process:

1. Background

2. White Splash

3. Pencil

4. Black stroke with chinese ink

5. Water Color ink

6. Details in Photoshop

7. Integration of "Billie Jean" lyrics on forehead in Photoshop

Inspiration : Mathiole

It's always great to see traditional media mixed with digital media and Mathiole's designs never disappoint. You can see many of his designs printed through Threadless and Designbyhumans t-shirts, as well as regular print media. All of designs use his signature watercolor style that actually was done before the computer is involved. I'm a fan of watercolor and I try to implement it into my designs when necessary, because it's so free.  Here is one recent design that Mathiole was commissioned to do for a bank. Check out the step by step process. Click to enlarge

Inspiration: Dmitriy Rebus Larin

Watercolors is a very difficult medium and I applaud anyone who can create amazing compositions with it. I know I've dabbled in them, but not enough as I should. For all those watercolor loving fans check out the wonderful art of Russian artistst Dmitriy Rebus Larin. The work that Dmitriy forms when his brush hits the canvas is astonishing.
