Vanessa Lake & tentacle by Serge Birault
Serge Birault also known as Papa Ninja released his new digital illustration. A friend of mine showed his work in progress to me and then I came across this image on tumblr and thought the final product is really well done. Serge definitely has a knack for creating some really good digital illustrations. I liked the added touch of the tattoo on his arm. Hair is difficult to do in general whether you're using traditional art tools or with a wacom tablet. He based the model Vanessa Lake. It's amazing what you can do in Photoshop.

Zombie Attack Owl 11 x 17 Print by Quakerninja
I came across this print done by Quakerninja and I thought it was a cool illustration worth posting. It's 11" x 17" glossy print. Quaker's style is fluid and you can see by the strokes used for the feathers. I do like the color of the owl and thinks it was a good choice. For $9.99 this is certainly a steal. Purchase it while it's still available here.

Dave Rapoza TMNT Illustrations
WOW...Just wow! The illustrations that Dave Rapoza came up with is unbelievable. They are amazing and his interpretation is great. These portraits have character and execute a bit of a realistic approach rather than the cartoon style that the teenage mutant ninja turtles are known for. I'm digging Donatello, April, and the Footclan Ninja the most. I think the Footclan ninja is super badass with the texture and the ripped mask. The lighting on that picture works very well. Definitely check out the work by Dave Rapoza at http://www.daverapoza.com

Adam Spizak's "The Devil's Advocate"
Adam Spizak is a designer that I recently came across and really like what he has done. He creates some great looking digital illustrations. This particular piece is on actress Charlize Theron. He has a whole case study of the step by step process of his design. It is quite cool, because he did not use a photo of Charlize. To view this in further detail click here
Below is some of the step by step process.

365 Days of Creativity -Day 38
Here is the final result from the sketch that I was working on the last couple of days. I honestly had no direction, except that I wanted to create a simple face in Photoshop, instead of illustrator. I decided to work with shapes and I felt splatter could make for an interesting element in this illustration. Even though I used splatter in this design, I still feel as though the white background still makes this image clean, because it's very clear. The focal point was obviously the face, but I think the diamond in the background and the glimpse of the circle adds a nice a touch. If I even wanted to put this on a t-shirt it is already separated.

iPad Finger Painting by David Kassan
I have recently acquired an iPad and trying to find the usefulness that people say it is. This particular video by David Kassan( http://davidkassan.com) makes me think there is a creative app that can be used on it. Although, he makes it easy to do, it is certainly not. This is very very good and I didn't think it was possible for the iPad. He states that the model sat in place for 3 hours while he worked this digital painting. Check this time lapse video out.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Poster
This is a very cool design was created by Jeff Proctor. This definitely brings back memories for me, when the Ninja Turtles were the pop icons that they were. Having the turtles be the only color was smart, because they definitely stand out.

365 Days of Creativity- First 2011 illustration
Happy New Year, Everyone! I hope you had a fun holiday. This is the first post of the new year. Resolutions are silly, but goals are not. You can start a goal anytime, but the one I have in mind seems right to start on January 1st. I want to create a new sketch, design, or illustration everyday and post it. I want to put some work into it, because I could create a bunch of terrible sketches. It will be fun and difficult, but let's see how close I can come with 365 days of work. Below is the first. I wanted to create a geisha, so I drew one. All of the work was done in Photoshop, but the vector art was taken from an illustrator file. I hope you like it.

Wolverine Digital Painting Video
This is a cool video of a Wolverine digital painting by Kenneth Kristensen. I always enjoyed watching the process from the beginning to end of videos like these. This time you'll see the whole digital painting, which looks like two paintings with the final outcome being merged. You'll have to enjoy and appreciate what is done.

Work In Progress-Sugar Skull Woman
If you saw my twitter feed on Tuesday, you would know that I'm concentrating on a sugar skull influenced design. Sugar skulls are very intricate detailed pieces of art and has gain a lot of popularity through tattoos. It comes from the Mexican holiday the "Day of the Dead." It's always interesting to see how the sugar skull style is implemented on a pretty woman. I decided that I would like to take a stab at it and I personally feel so far so good. There is plenty of work to do be done, but here is the progress so far.

Drawing a Tattered Scroll From Scratch
This is another video from Jeff Finley, but unlike the Wacom Tutorial, this isn't a clear step by step video. It's an interesting video and you see how he transfers the art from Photoshop to Illustrator to make it into a vector image, but there's no clear explanation.
